Signe Borch

SIGNE: Love at first sight
Pronunciation: Seen ‘er (as in ‘I’ve seen her)/ Bork
Signe Borch (Denmark) grew up in a musical family, playing the piano and singing in harmony with her sisters. She picked up the guitar at 12, and spent her teenage years playing electric guitar in local rock bands.
In 2010, she fell in love with flatpicking guitar, and became an active member of the Danish bluegrass association, Bluegrass Music Denmark. Since then, she’s been involved in organizing bluegrass shows in Copenhagen with bands from all over Europe, and she is now the president of the organization.
Soon after joining the Danish bluegrass community, she started the duo The Tenderhearted with mandolin- and guitar player Christian Feierskov. In 2016, she met the Belgian banjo- and mandolin player Thierry Schoysman, with whom she formed a musical (and romantic) partnership, resulting in the duo Table for Two.
Signe is a hardcore jammer. A European bluegrass festival is not the same if she is not there jamming, picking tunes on the mandolin, taking flight in a guitar solo, or singing harmonies to bluegrass songs. Her perpetual good mood and genuine love of bluegrass music is contagious, which makes her a fantastic booker and band mate.
Who are your heroes when it comes to bluegrass music?
“Listening to David Grier, Bryan Sutton and Kenny Smith inspires me to pick up the guitar, every time. I enjoy all good harmony singing - from Stanley Brothers to Kathy Kallick and Laurie Lewis.”
What do you love most about playing your instrument?
“The many different sounds of a guitar. It can paint the background, or take the lead. Play bass lines, a melody, chords....”
Why are you excited to be in this band?
“The energy when we play is so high: it’s powerful, groovy, and hard-driving without being rowdy. All musicians in the band are very good listeners! And it’s fun to do the all-female harmony singing”.
